Giving Back
Quality reigns supreme at Paramount Citrus, and the notion stretches far beyond growing fruit. We take pride in giving back to the environment and to the communities where we live and work. Every year, Paramount Citrus works closely with numerous organizations to help cultivate our environment and society.
Programs In the Valley
- In 2006, Paramount family companies donated $4 million to the Children’s Hospital Central California
- UC Merced’s UC Scholars Program in Delano – counseling for students and parents on the “pathways” to college
- One Voice – intensive mentoring program for 11th – college students and their parents
- Save the Children Reading Program at Avenal Elementary
- PS Arts – arts education in Avenal and Kettleman City schools
- College Board Partnership – promotes a college going culture in Avenal, McFarland, Shafter and Wasco
- Body by Jake Don’t Quit Fitness Centers promoting physical fitness at an early age at A.M. Thomas Middle School in Lost Hills, Avenal High School, McFarland Middle School and
- Avenal Summer Day Camp for elementary and junior high students
- Bard College Writing and Thinking Institute for teachers from Delano and Woodlake High Schools and Almond Tree Middle School in Delano
- CVELI (Central Valley Educational Leadership Institute) – partnership with Avenal High School, Wasco Elementary District, and Woodlake High School District promoting best practices and coaches for site and district administrators
- California State University Bakersfield – 3 faculty members are CVELI coaches for administrators in Shafter’s Richland Elementary District
- Great Valley Center IDEAL Program– provide funding for valley individuals who are interested in enhancing or beginning to show an interest in community level leadership.
- Lincoln Elementary School, Lindsay, California, $20,000/year x 2 years – Paramount Citrus is supporting Lincoln Elementary School's innovative approach to teaching critical thinking skills in math, English, science, and social studies.
- Support for Children’s Hospital Central California – $4 million pledged to support a new Paramount Farms Center.
- New partnership with Cal State Fresno’s College of Agriculture. Paramount is donating a citrus orchard to the college and is supporting a student fellowship.
Incentive & Scholarship Programs
College Bound Incentive Program
- For children of Paramount employees
- 2007 -154 students in grades 6-11 received cash awards of up to $150 for their grades
College Bound Scholarship Program
- For children of Paramount employees
- Is noncompetitive
- 2007 - 39 high school seniors awarded scholarships (renewable up to 4 years)
Community Scholarship Program
- Non-Paramount seniors at Avenal, Coalinga (new 2008), Delano, McFarland, Sanger (new 2008), Shafter, Wasco and Woodlake High Schools
- 2007 - 20 awarded each year (renewable up to 4 years)
78 College Bound and Community scholarship college students have returned their renewal paperwork and have received scholarship funds again this year.
School Grants
- Avenal, Delano, McFarland, Sanger, Shafter, Wasco and Woodlake High Schools and their feeder middle schools (7 high and 19 middle schools)
- Coalinga and Sanger High Schools invited this year, 07-08, to participate
- 2007 - 69 out of 95 grants awarded
- Helps schools purchase equipment and provide educational opportunities that would not be possible without our funding
